Alex and Harry have now been on the south coast of Gran Canaria for 10 days prepping the boat and preparing themselves for the big departure into the great blue yonder. After such a long time planning they are finally ready, but as luck would have it, it seems the weather is not. In order to ensure their best chances of getting a good start and picking up the easterly trade winds further south, they need to have 2 to 3 days of consistent easterly/north easterly winds in their favour. Unfortunately the weather has recently become quite unsettled with the wind currently blowing from the south west, and is forecast to continue until the middle of this week. It is therefore with much frustration that they have decided to delay their departure until a suitable weather window presents itself. Hopefully they won’t have to wait too long!

Alex and Harry would like to thank you all for your final messages of support and good luck. They mean a huge amount, as do of course the large number of extremely generous donations that keep coming in. They have now raised over £126,000 for their two charities – this is a phenomenal figure which is incredibly humbling and will serve as a very powerful motivation for them on the high seas. This is not the first time the boys have moved goal posts but they are aiming to make that figure rise to £150,000 by the time they reach Barbados. The work that Cure Leukaemia and JDRF do is extraordinary so thank you for getting behind them and supporting these two amazing charities.

In the mean time, fingers crossed for a change in the weather!
