The ‘eat out to help out’ scheme launches today with hopes that it will provide a much-needed boost to the hospitality industry. The initiative offers diners a discount of up to £10 per head on food and soft drinks when dining in on Monday to Wednesday throughout August. More than 70,000 restaurants from The Ivy to Nandos as well as smaller chains, independents, pubs and cafes have signed up to the scheme.

Diners do not have to apply to receive the discount, it is applied automatically to the bill at all participating establishments and then claimed back by them from the government. The government hopes that the scheme will boost consumer confidence and encourage people to venture out and support local businesses.
