From crisis management to recovery phase

The coming few weeks will see the biggest tests so far in the drive to get the country and the economy moving again. From August 1st the government will begin to scale back the furlough scheme which has been the biggest single economic intervention of the crisis and has so far benefited over 9 million jobs. Moving forward businesses will be asked to contribute some of their own money to keep staff on furlough and funds will be completely removed by October in order to encourage everyone back into work.

As the country emerges from lockdown there are signs of normality returning; roads are noticeably busier; the high street is seeing numbers slowly pick up, and pubs and restaurants are open for business again as the government moves from crisis management and into the recovery phase of the outbreak.

Employers will be asked to return their staff to an office setting from next week if it is safe to do so, and this could also provide a boost for city centres and high streets that have previously seen good trade from office workers.

The message is clear, we are exiting crisis phase, it is time to try and return to some version of normality.
Normality and a return to pre-lockdown are levels of business are what all businesses from smaller independents to SMEs through to blue chip companies are hoping for. Lockdown gave many businesses a period of enforced reflection, time to think about how they operated and how they could do so more efficiently moving forward.

Many SMEs have faced the struggle of late payment and the impact that can have on not only cash flow but also the ability to effectively plan and invest in the business. Uncertainty around being able to accurately forecast cash flow means that there is not the confidence to explore new product lines or markets or to scale up existing lines. It also has a detrimental effect on the mental health of many business owners who spend time worrying about how to collect overdue invoices. Many feel reluctant because they don’t want to risk alienating existing clients and jeopardising the prospect of new work, some pass the responsibility over to staff who aren’t specifically trained in this area, often with poor results.

Partnering with a company who has experience in credit management and debt collection makes sense. It will free up your and your staff’s time to do what you do best, work on and in your business.
